In 1530, Pope Clement VII crowned the Habsburg Charles V emperor in Bologna. This spectacular event would be the last imperial coronation performed by a pope. Although little is known about the music performed at the ceremony, it is assumed to have included the mass "Sur tous regretz" by Nicolas Gombert, also known as "A la Incoronation."

At the heart of this project is Guatemalan composer Gaspar Fernández, whose Cancionero (a collection of 270 villancicos written between 1606 and 1629) remains the largest surviving work by a single composer in this tradition.
